Description
The Polypterus ansorgii, the common name Guinean bichir is a ray-finned fish from rivers and freshwater habitats in Western Africa. Reaching a maximum length of approximately 72 cm (28 in), it is greenish-brown to black in colour and has large, dark spots and blotches on its sides. The bottom jaw may protrude very slightly on more mature specimens. It can be confused with other bichirs, with which it is similar.
