Description

Although a peaceful, schooling species that works well in community tanks alongside fish of similar size, it is a predator, and will eat very small fish such as tetras and guppies. On the other hand, it works very nicely with gouramis, barbs, silver dollars, rainbowfish and other species too big to swallow.

Sociable, so keep in groups of at least three specimens. Somewhat nocturnal in habits, and only likely to become active during the day if the tank has lots of shade and not-too strong lighting. Harmless to plants, so an ideal species for the planted aquarium.

Eats most foods, but particularly relishes frozen bloodworms and other insect larvae. Will also take catfish pellets and flake food, if these are offered at night. A restless fish, this species needs lots of swimming room, and should be kept in a long, uncluttered aquarium so that it can move about freely.
