Oligolepis Acutipennis

Description

Oligolepis acutipennis, also known as the Sharptail goby, is a species of goby native to marine, freshwater and brackish waters along the coasts of Indo-West Pacific region. This species can reach a length of 12 centimetres (4.7 in)TL.

Mostly found in muddy estuaries and coastal bays around marine and brackish water systems, they should do well in a larger set-up with decent filtration. A soft, sandy substrate is well suited as they like to dig. Additional décor can include some smooth rocks and driftwood or mangrove roots, while lighting need not be too bright. Pairs or small groups work well and the mostly like to feed on items such as worms and insect larvae, although small fish can also apparently be preyed on. Dried foods are normally refused, so you’ll need to offer daily meals of live or frozen bloodworm or Artemia (brine shrimp), chopped prawn and mussel.

In the aquarium, they adapt to a variety of conditions but do best in moderately hard water. They are peaceful towards most similar-sized tankmates and with each other, although adult males may spar over territory.
