The chameleon shrimp is not particularly picky in its food requirements. It is omnivorous, not averse to live and frozen food and can be fed with mosquito larvae from time to time.

The chameleon shrimp belongs to the large arm shrimp and is scientifically called Macrobrachium scabriculum. Originally it comes from Indo-Pacific region and is known as Goda River Prawn.
Young animals seem almost glassy in colour and they change from blue to brown to black as they mature.
Male chameleon shrimp reach a size of approximately 6.5 cm, whereas the females remain smaller at around 5 cm.
The most striking feature is the scissor pelage they develop on one arm.
The aquarium for a chameleon shrimp should have at least 80L and be equipped with roots, secure stone structures and plenty of caves, where they like to go after molting. They can be very territorial and aggressive with small fishes and especially bottom dwelling ones caught and eaten.
