Corydoras vittatus, also known as the Striped Cory or Vittatus Cory, is a freshwater fish species belonging to the Corydoradinae subfamily within the Callichthyidae family. Indigenous to South America, these fish can be found in several countries, including Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela.
Corydoras vittatus boasts a distinct look, characterised by its relatively elongated body with a flattened underbelly. The defining feature of this fish is its pale to light brown base colour adorned with multiple dark horizontal stripes traversing its body, which accounts for its common moniker, “Striped Cory.” Additionally, these fish possess eyes situated on the upper part of their heads and a pair of barbels, akin to whiskers, encircling their mouths.
Renowned for their peaceful and sociable nature, these fish are ideal for community tanks. They are primarily bottom-dwellers, dedicating much of their time to scouring the substrate for sustenance. They exhibit shoaling behaviour, so housing them in groups is ideal to promote their well-being.
