Balloon Ramirezi, Mikrogeophagus ramirezi, originate from South America and are generally peaceful with a mellow temperament making them great for a community set-up.
They are a bright and colourful addition to a natural set-up consisting of dark waters, leaf litter and branches or driftwood.
They require pristine waters and non aggressive or territorial tank mates and due to their fragility they are more suited to experienced fish-keepers.
Although they are known to forage for food, taking mouthfuls of substrate to sift through and expelling anything that is not edible through their gills and mouth, they will happily accept dried fish food with live or frozen foods as a welcome addition.
