Description
Acanthicus adonis, the adonis pleco or polka dot lyre-tail pleco, is a large species of armoured catfish.
Acanthicus adonis is among the largest armored catfish species and reaches a length of 1 m (3.3 ft). It is dark brown to black with numerous white spots as a juvenile. As the fish matures, the spots become less numerous and smaller, often disappearing entirely in large adults.
The most suitable tankmates would be medium-large sized fish which occupy the mid to upper levels as these fish can be fiercely territorial with conspecifics and other bottom dwellers that occupy the same niche.
Smaller specimens can be offered bloodworm, vitamin-enriched brineshrimp, Mysis shrimp etc. Larger specimens will enjoy prawns, cockles, mussels, crab, crayfish etc. Will also take large sinking catfish pellets, algae wafers, sinking carnivore pellets, plus many fruits and vegetables.
