Badis assamensis is also commonly known as the Chameleon Fish. As the Badis assamensis reaches maturity, males will often display more intense red and iridescent red colouration on their fins.

Description
Badis assamensis is the largest of all Badis species and can reach around 8 cm in length. It is typically more predatory than other chameleon fish.
The species originates from northern India (Assam) where they inhabit clear, relatively fast-flowing waters. In the hot season, water temperatures rise to approximately 26-28°C for weeks and during the rainy season (monsoon season) they drop very quickly to approximately 16-20°C.
Like all chameleon fish, Badis assamensis does not accept dry food; only frozen or live food.
Large males can be somewhat confrontational among themselves, so it is advisable to provide sufficient hiding places. The sexes are difficult to distinguish with certainty, females usually have a slightly convex abdominal line, while males have a slightly concave one. The colouration of Badis assamensis, like any chameleon fish, can change very quickly. The fish are typical cave breeders.
