They are a peaceful community type fish and should be kept with other peaceful fish of similar or smaller size.
They will generally accept flakes, micro-pellets, frozen and live foods that are suitable for their size. They will readily accept baby brine shrimp and micro-worms.
The ram cichlid is popular in the tropical freshwater community aquarium. While most cichlids are not well suited for a community tank, if a male and female pair are placed in a community tank, they generally will do well.
